I just received an e-mail from John Lombardi's campaign citing a new Zogby poll which has him leading the race for Mayor over Angel Taveras, Christopher Young, and Steven Costantino.  Here's the full text of the e-mail:

PROVIDENCE, RI -   John Lombardi holds the lead in the Democratic race for Providence mayor. Zogby International, a highly respected polling organization, reported today (September 2), that the veteran City Council member tops the field as the September 14 primary approaches.

The results of the survey, taken over the past ten days, support the claims of many Lombardi backers who have scoffed at some media reports of unnamed polls to the contrary.

"People are looking for experienced leadership to run the city," said Ramon Martinez, Lombardi's Campaign Manager.  "The next Mayor needs to hit the ground running, with a vision to lead the city out of crisis.  John Lombardi is that man and it’s obvious that the people of Providence know that."

Zogby International has been tracking public opinion since 1984.
