Barack Obama Selects Sonia Sotomayor as His Nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court

Barack Obama chose Sonia Sotomayor as his nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court.  From what I've been reading, she's seems  to be a textbook example of an activist judge. In 2005, she said the appellate court is where, "policy is made."  She also issued unusual decisions, such as her one paragraph explanation in a discrimination suit involving 19 firefighters, along with some questionable statements.  Here's one:

"I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion that a white male."

You might think that some of my views are partisan, but it seems that many friends and Democrats don't have a particularly high opinion of Sonia Sotomayor.  Despite this, I do expect her to be confirmed.  I'm sure the Republicans will attempt to get 40 votes to stop her confirmation, but I doubt they will be successful.  After all, they would need unanimous agreement.  I think it will be a long, controversial process, but she will be confirmed.
