The Truth About E-Verify
* 96.1% of employees are confirmed as work authorized before any type of mismatch notice or need for action by the employee or employer. (instantly or within 24 hours).
* 3.9% of employees receive initial mismatches (tentative non-confirmations)
-0.37% of employees initial mismatches later confirmed work authorized.
-3.5% of employees receive a final non-confirmation response because they are either not authorized to work in the United States, did not know that they had the opportunity to challenge an initial mismatch (or TNC), or choose not to follow the necessary procedures to prove work authorization after receiving an initial mismatch.
So, just to summarize, just 3.87% of those who use E-Verify receive an initial mismatch. Many of these people receive the mismatch because they are here illegally and are not authorized to work in the United States! This does not demonstrate a failing of E-Verify, instead it demonstrates how effective it truly is. If you hear of a legislator opposing E-Verify because it "doesn't work," you need to realize that they are either unaware of the true statistics, or they support illegal immigration.
I would also like to add that my employer uses E-Verify, and not one of us encountered a problem. This bill should be allowed to come up for a vote. Failing to do so is akin to putting out a welcome mat for illegal immigrants.
