Who Will Run Against David Cicilline in 2010?

We have been hearing a lot of speculation and announcements from people who intend to run for governor, lieutenant governor, and attorney general, but I haven't heard anything about the 2010 Providence mayoral race.  Well, that changed today when Christopher Young threw his hat in the ring!  Are you excited yet?  Me neither.

Christopher Young, of Narragansett (yes, Narragansett!) will be running against David Cicilline in the Democratic primary after he actually becomes a resident of the city.  He also doesn't intend to raise any money, which could make things difficult for him, since David Cicilline currently has $723,702 in his campaign account.

It's rather obvious that Christopher Young doesn't have much of a chance, but I will give him credit for one thing: He announced his candidacy early.  There are several viable Democrats and Republicans in the city who could launch a credible, competitive campaign.  Where are they, and what are they waiting for?

David Cicilline decided not to run for governor because he knew he couldn't win.  With the controversy surrounding John CIcilline's bad check, Robert Ceprano's firing and lawsuit, and a large deficit, among other things, David Cicilline is vulnerable.  When is someone going to step up and take a chance?
