Sheldon Whitehouse Lacks Common Sense on Waterboarding

“We just should’t be doing this stuff,” he said. “Even if torture is productive it still raises the larger issue of what America stands for as a country.”

He added, “There is not evidence to show that torture can produce anything that offsets the harm that this chapter in our history has done to our standing in the world.”

Those words, spoken by Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, could not be more wrong.  According to Dick Cheney, waterboarding has been successful, and has led toimportant information.  For those who criticize Dick Cheney, he wants CIA memos released which show that waterboarding was successful.  Liberals might cringe, but terrorist attacks were prevented by waterboarding terrorists.

I know that many Democrats are upset by the poor treatment and lack of luxury amenities for the terrorists.  I know they think we should be nicer to them, but there are a few things we need to remember.  The goal of the terrorists was to murder as many Americans as possible.  The more Americans that were killed, the more successful there mission was.  With that said, I really don't care that waterboarding was used.  Kahlid Sheik Mohammed was waterboarded 183 times.  Would he have had to endure waterboarding 183 times if he weren't involved in the murder of thousands of American deaths?  No he wouldn't have.  Let's also remember that Khalid Sheik Mohammed is still alive.  What about Americans who died in the World Trade Center?  I can't say I have any sympathy for terrorists.

Sheldon Whitehouse says we, "shouldn't be doing this stuff."  What should we be doing?  Should we ask them the same questions repeatedly without intimidation in the hope that they have an attack of conscience?  That's not going to happen.  Since waterboarding can't be used, I wonder how he would feel if a future attack isn't prevented because of the less effective techniques favored by him and other liberals.  Aren't the lives of hundreds or thousands of Americans more valuable than the comfort of a terrorist?  If this happens, those deaths will be on their conscience.
