My Attempt to Help Liberals Understand Tea Parties
Liberals can't seem to understand why the Tea Parties took place, and have been making lots of comments and asking lots of questions. I decided to take a few moments to explain the reasoning for my participation in the Tea Party in terms that even they could understand.
What's the point of the Tea Party?
I wanted to make it known that I am opposed to increased spending and taxes. Citizens are forced to live within their means, and the same should be true of government. Just look at all the borrowing that is occurring. That money has to be paid back eventually.
DIdn't Barack Obama cut taxes for 95% of Americans?
Yes he did. He cut revenue by cutting taxes, then he engaged in a massive amount of spending which is increasing the National Debt. We have to pay interest on that debt, plus I don't like owing money to the Chinese government.
Barack Obama is spending to pull us out of the recession. The deficit will be lower than the one he inherited by the end of his first term.
That could happen. I could also be invited to the Playboy Mansion and have multiple Playmates fighting over me. Both scenarios are technically possible, but neither is likely. The deficit has already expanded drastically under Barack Obama, and he hasn't even been in office 100 days! Sure he is planning on reducing forces in Iraq, but what if his timeline isn't feasible? He has already increased the number of soldiers in Afghanistan. Let's not forget that we have his health care plan. I expect the high level of spending to continue.
Like many Republicans, I like tax cuts, but this isn't the time. I'm actually a big fan of balancing the budget, making some progress on paying down the National Debt, then pushing through some big tax cuts. Pay the bills, reduce unnecessary spending, then let people keep more of their own money, substantially more.
George W. Bush ran up the budget. It's not Barack Obama's fault!
When George W. Bush began his Presidency, he reversed a trend that could have led to us paying off the National Debt. Instead of paying down the National Debt, he increased it substantially. I didn't like when he did it, and I don't like Barack Obama doing it.
Then why didn't you have a Tea Party when George W. Bush was in office?
I didn't organize the Tea Parties, I just went to support smaller government, reduced spending, and eventually, lower taxes. If there had been a Tea Party when George W. Bush was in office, I would have attended. There were several Issues where I agreed with George W. Bush, but his administration's spending wasn't one of them.
The Tea Parties weren't a grassroots effort. It was created and promoted by Fox News!
The Tea Parties did start as a grassroots effort in a few cities and towns throughout the country. Once the idea caught on, Fox News and conservative radio hosts picked up on the story and publicized it. The radio hosts pushed it because the hosts agreed with the mission of the parties. The same could be said about Fox News. I find it funny that liberals criticize Fox News, yet they never acknowledge the bias in MSNBC's coverage. Let's face it, MSNBC looks like its content is decided by the DNC!
The Tea Parties have nothing to do with the budget. They were just anti-Obama rallies!
If I had to guess, I think it is safe to say that the majority of the participants did not vote for Barack Obama. I certainly didn't. Here's what bothers me: Liberals are angry that the Tea Parties appear to be a protest against Barack Obama and his ideas. Since he is the first black President, they then infer that it was a racist rally. First, if anyone is racist, it would be the liberals who level such allegations. They are the ones obsessed with race. Second, the rally attracted fiscal conservatives. Is it really such a shock that fiscal conservatives wouldn't support the ideas of a free-spending politician with socialist tendencies?
The American people voted for change in November. That's why Democrats have control of the Presidency and Congress.
Yes, and once they realize what they've done, Republicans will recapture several seats in 2010.
