AIG Friends and Political Activities Over the Years
You might not be surprised to find out that AIG has contributed $9.3 million to political campaigns since 1989, that they spent $9.7 million lobbying Congress in 2008, or that they are Senator Chris Dodd's 4th largest contributor ($280,238). By the way, Chris Dodd is the Chairman of the Senate banking committee, which I'm sure is just a coincidence. Here are some other interesting AIG facts:

*AIG spent $11.4 million on lobbying in 2007:

After receiving almost $200 billion in bailout funds, AIG handed out $160 million in bonuses to the terrific employees who helped wreck the company, and cause major damage to both the U.S. and global economy. Politicians in Washington are expressing outrage at this development, but many lined up with their hands out to receive contributions. Shouldn't situations like this have been addressed before funds were given to AIG? Were politicians and AIG executives hoping bonus payments wouldn't be noticed? We don't know, but we should know about the relationships that have developed between this company and politicians over the years.
