GM and Chrysler Need to File For Bankruptcy
General Motors says it will need $30 billion in help from taxpayers and will be cutting 47,000 jobs, Chrysler will need a total of $9 billion and will cut 3,000 jobs, while Ford will need...nothing? That's right, Ford took care of its problems on its own and doesn't need any help from taxpayers. GM and Chrysler can complain about the tough economy all they want, but one thing can't be denied: The management at GM and Chrysler is dreadful.
The companies have reportedly negotiated concessions from the United Auto Workers, and the plan needs to be reviewed by the Treasury Department. The best scenario would be a poor plan, which would force the GM and Chrysler to file for bankruptcy protection. These companies, like countless others, are poorly run and need to be allowed to fail. We cannot allow companies to run themselves into the ground then beg for help. It will set a dangerous precedent that will continue to strain our resources.
