According to David Axelrod, Barack Obama will be issuing an executive order which would allow federal funding for embryonic stem cell research involving new lines of cells.  Under current law, funding can only be obtained for research using lines created before August 9th, 2001.  I'm glad to hear about this change.  This research has the potential to cure numerous diseases and improve the quality of life for so many people.

     I just find it odd that he didn't issue an executive order sooner.  After all, Barack Obama went out of his way to address the mistreatment of terrorists at Guantanamo Bay, yet he held off on the stem cell order.  I guess being nice to terrorists is more important than curing debilitating diseases.
