Tom Daschle Withdraws Nomination; Tax Problems Haunt Nominees

Tom Daschle withdrew as Barack Obama's nominee for Secretary of Health and Human Services.  After "accidentally" forgetting to pay nearly $140,000 in back taxes and penalties, along with several potential conflicts of interest, Daschle finally decided not to pursue confirmation.  In addition to Daschle, Obama's nominee for chief performance officer, Nancy Killefer, also has tax problems of her own.  For those of you keeping score at home, that's two Obama nominees that had to step aside (including Bill Richardson), and 3 who have had tax issues.  I wonder how lucky Tim Geithner feels right about now.

Now, wasn't it Joe Biden who said that paying taxes was "patriotic"?  I guess Obama and Biden should have looked for more "patriotic" nominees.
