Reaction to David Cicilline's Firing of Robert Ceprano

Here are some quotes that jumped out at me from today's Providence Journal:

Ceprano’s lawyer, Artin H. Coloian, called his client’s firing “a terrible injustice” and said a lawsuit against the city, under the state Whistle blowers’ Protection Act, is possible.

“The only person looking out for the taxpayers is the one who gets fired, while the mayors’ cronies –– who were ultimately culpable –– get away unscathed,” said Coloian.

I agree with Artin Coloian.  Robert Ceprano's firing looks like retribution, plain and simple.  I would like to see an investigation of all the people who were "helped" with their taxes over the years and compare it to the list of contributors to David Cicilline's campaign.  If the cases that came to light are any indication, there should be an interesting correlation.

You would expect Ceprano's lawyer to criticize Cicilline, but the City Council also seems to be angered by the recent developments.  John Lombardi and John Igliozzi criticized Cicilline's handling of the situation in yesterday's Journal, and today we have Luis Aponte criticizing the Mayor:

City Councilman Luis A. Aponte called the mayor’s announced changes “political sleights of hand.”

“He’s trying to redirect the public conversation to issues of reform where they might not be necessary. He’s engaging in borderline character assassination of a well-regarded member of this community,” he said of Ceprano.

By the way, if you look at the public comments on the article below, the public  seems to be strongly opposed to Robert Ceprano's firing.  The more this situation unfolds, the worse it looks for the Mayor.  Hopefully, the Rhode Island State Police will shed light on what is happening in Providence City Hall.  Although, their results may take a while.  If recent events are any indication, there is probably a lot to investigate.
