House Passes Stimulus Bill
The House passed the $819 billion stimulus bill, on a vote of 244 to 188. The Republican opposition was unanimous, and they were joined by 11 Democrats who also opposed the legislation. Representative Randy Neugebauer attempted to remove spending from the bill, but not surprisingly, it was defeated 302 to 134. He also asked a very good question, "Where are we going to get the money?"
Of course we know where the money is going to come from, it's going to be borrowed. Even though the national debt is rising steadily, the government is ready to continue spending on yet another stimulus bill that will further raise our debt levels and interest payments. I may be wrong, but wasn't excessive borrowing by businesses and consumers one of the causes of the mess we are in? Does it make sense to borrow our way out of it?
