Francesco Insolia was sentenced to one year and a day in prison  and will have to pay a $30,000 fine.   His company, Michael Bianco, Inc will have to pay a fine of $1.51 million and $460,000 in restitution.  I'm glad to see Insolia get jail time and and a fine, but I'm disappointed with the sentence.

     Francesco Insolia knowingly hired more than 350 illegal immigrants, and his company was charged with 18 felonies, including mail fraud and social security fraud.  He could have faced up to 10 years in prison, which I think would have been a far more appropriate sentence.  Illegal immigration is a problem which wouldn't exist to such a serious degree if it weren't for greedy businessmen such as Francesco Insolia.  People like him encourage illegal immigration, treat employees unfairly, and prevent legal residents from obtaining employment.  Businesses which knowingly employ illegal immigrants need to be prosecuted aggressively to send a message.  This sentence didn't accomplish that goal.
