Terrorists: We Need to Treat Them Better
Barack Obama has taken a big step forward to improve our standing in the international community. He has signed orders to close the Guantanamo Bay detention center, close the CIA's overseas prisons, and ban some interrogation methods that have been criticized. These changes will address some of the criticism the United States has received over its treatment of detainees at Guantanamo Bay. Unfortunately, it won't do anything to make us safer.
It has taken the government too long to bring detainees to trial, but the current orders seem poorly planned. Barack Obama has supported closing Guantanamo for some time, yet there still doesn't seem to be a firm plan in place. No, these orders won't make us safer, but they will make the CIA's job harder. But look on the bright side, the world can marvel at how well we treat the individuals who are directly or indirectly responsible for the death of thousands of Americans.
