Quonset in the News
The General Assembly is considering forming a commission to study a potential container port at Quonset. The Senate approved a study last year, but the House never voted on the measure. Hopefully, the commission will be formed, and there will be some useful information by the September 1st deadline. A container port is controversial, but it would probably create a lot of jobs and diversify the local economy. It deserves a closer look.
In other Quonset news, Rhode Island is one of the places competing to have up to 400 active-duty airmen assigned to its National Guard Complex. Not only would it add to the local economy, but it would also make it less likely that future military cuts hurt Rhode Island. Let's hope we hear some good news soon.
