Auto Industry Bailout: The Democrats are Trying Their Hardest to Help Mismanaged Corporations
Thankfully, it appears that George Bush and the Republicans are against giving money from the $700 bailout fo the auto industry, and they also are opposed to a seperate $25 billion. As I've written before, I'm against any bailouts for the auto industry. Handing them a check will ensure that companies from every sector imaginable will converge on Washington D.C. looking for money.
There have been a few different proposals to help the auto industry. Strangely, the option that is the least objectionable and most likely to pass, is opposed by the Democrats. It involves using the $25 billion loan approved in September to keep the big 3 afloat. The Democrats are opposed to this option because of pressure from environmentalists, and the need for more fuel efficient vehicles. Correct me if I'm wrong, but won't Ford, Chrysler, and GM have difficulty building fuel efficient vehicles if they're out of business?
This situation makes me think about all the people i know who criticize the Republicans for being for "the rich", while Democrats support "regular people". Well, wasn't it Congressional Democrats who really pushed the $700 billion bailout of the financial industry and the $25 billion bailout of the suto industry? The Democrats are the ones interested in handing taxpayer money to companies run by multimillionaire CEO's who failed miserably. The CEO's want to blame the general economy, but I don't recall Honda, Toyota, or Hyundai seeking bailout from their governments.
