Providence Switching to United Health?
According to the Providence Business News, David Cicilline is recommending that the City of Providence switch to UnitedHealth to provide health coverage to 9,000 city employees and retirees. Choosing UnitedHealth would save the city $7.8 million over 3 years. The Board of Contracts will take up the proposal at 2pm on Tuesday.
This should start an interesting debate. The City insists that employees will have the same amount of coverage, and the plan will be accepted by 97 percent of physicians who accept Blue Cross. Despite these assurance, I'm expecting the unions to put up a fight. If they win, you can hold them at least partially responsible for the tax increase that Dave will probably hit the tax payers with again next year.
