The Second Presidential Debate: McCain Needs A Strategy Shift

The Presidential Election is four weeks away, and the second debate between Barack Obama and John McCain will be a very important one.  With John McCain trailing in the polls, giving up on Michigan, and Barack Obama competing in traditionally red states, McCain needs to try something different.  It's obvious that his current strategy isn't getting him very far.

McCain needs to appeal to undecided voters who are probably just starting to tune into the election.  He should certainly point out flaws in Obama's plans, but he also needs to reintroduce Americans to some of Barack Obama's friends, such as Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, and Tony Rezko.  These associations were mentioned in passing during the primary, but have hardly been mentioned since.  When I talk to people who follow politics casually, they have little or no idea who these people are.  McCain needs to expose the skeletons in Barack Obama's closet.

If McCain doesn't come out fighting tonight, he deserves to lose.  The race is still up for grabs, but he must be aggressive and press these issues.  They must be brought up, and Obama must be forced to defend himself.  If McCain doesn't do this, he doesn't deserve to win.
