Don't Blame George Bush For The Financial Crisis
In the 2000 and 2004 presidential elections, I voted for third party candidates. Even though I'm a Republican, I just couldn't bring myself to vote for George Bush. With that said, I'd like to give him credit for being one of the few people who recognized that our financial system was in peril. As far back as 2003, George Bush issued warnings about Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae that were largely ignored by Congress. Now, we're paying for the mistakes of Presidents and Congressmen. Not just the current President and Congressmen, but also those who came before. This isn't a problem that just happened recently, or even during the current administration. It has been festering for years.
With that said, I find it amusing that representative Barney Frank and Christopher Dodd seem so concerned with our nation's financial future. Where were they over the years? As veteran legislators, couldn't they see this problem unfolding? Now, we have the bailout, or as Nancy Pelosi calls it, the "buy-in". Next time you see a Democrat criticizing Bush for the financial crisis, ask yourself, where were Barney Frank, Christopher Dodd, Nancy Pelosi, and other legislators? If they had acted sooner, this all could have been avoided.
