Illegal Immigration: Rhode Islanders Agree That Something Needs To Be Done

A new Rhode Island College poll shows that Rhode Islanders strongly support Governor Carcieri's executive order cracking down on illegal immigration.  73% of Rhode Islanders support the executive order, as opposed to 75% in June.  From looking at those numbers, it looks like Rhode Islanders are firmly behind the governor on issues of illegal immigration.

Illegal immigrants broke the law by coming here illegally, they take jobs from legal residents, they drive down wages, and they place an overall strain on school systems.  In the absence of immigration reform at the national level, Rhode Island needs to make sure that it does everything it can to make the state an inhospitable place for those who choose to break the law.  Failure to do so will make us a safe haven for those who ignore immigration laws, and would eventually make us a sanctuary state.
