What Went Wrong Dave?
Providence police chief Dean Esserman has asked the State Police to investigate the bad check for $75,000 that John Cicilline, Mayor David Cicilline's brother, gave to the city as collateral for overdue taxes that were owed by a client. This is upsetting for a few reasons. First, why did it take 2 years for a $75,000 check to come to light? Why did David Cicilline hire an independent auditor instead of going to the State Police? Finally, since the mess is being investigated by the State Police, will the auditor still be hired? It seems like it would be a waste of money to me. For someone who prides himself on honesty and transparency, it sure seems like David Cicilline was dragging his feet on this one.
